This is one of Taylor Swifts most popular songs. Arranged for Clarinet Fusions
2017 summer concert series, it was a big hit with our multi-generational
audiences.
This is an 8-part choir arrangement that is flexible enough to be done with 5 Bb and 3 bass
clarinets if you had to. There are alternate Bb parts for both the Alto clarinet and the Eb,
(although it is high for a Bb). The score does include an alternate EEb
Contralto part for BBb Contrabass that can be used based upon your
availability of instruments. (or played by a second bass, if need be)
The percussion coverage in the 4th Bb part is scored for two pitched wood
blocks, but you can use any 2-pitch items. You could even hit 2 different parts
of the music stand!
The "hand claps" in the Eb and 4th Bb parts are indicated by: "Stick:". We used
a cowbell, but again, you can use anything you have, including the music
stand, to get the percussive sound. Encourage the audience to help with the
hand claps!
There are notations where to randomly stand and rock out along with the
piece. Each of us did a "shake it off" hand gesture throughout whenever we had
rests. We upped the fun factor by wearing accessories such as bandannas and
Hawaiian leis. You could get up and dance around a bit. Use it as a "7th inning
stretch" for your audience to get up and move. Do whatever you would like to
do to have some fun! Its all about letting ourselves Shake It Off!
