Product Description

On December 27, 2017, Vida Movahed,, an Iranian woman, stood in the crowd on a utility box in the Enghelab Street (Revolution Street) of Tehran, Iran, removed the headwear that all Iranian women are required by law to wear, tied her hijab, a white headscarf, to a stick, and waved it to the crowd as a flag.   Her message is clear.  Iranian women want to choose whether they wear the hijab or not.  She was arrested on that day and found guilty of encouraging "public corruption".  Vida Movahed, became known as the 'Girl of Enghelab Street".

Other young women, individually and in small groups, began to follow suit, posting their pictures on social media and generating new hashtags in Farsi and in English. One of those hashtags which translates to #girls-enghelab-street.  Three have reportedly been sentenced to two years in prison and some others are believed to have left the country. The movement Vida Movahed inspired was soon dubbed "The Girls of Revolution Street."
