Product Description

Beethoven's Piano Sonata No.14 in C# minor (Sonata quasi una Fantasia) Op.27. No.2, Mvt.1 also known as the "Moonlight Sonata" is probably the best known of his compositions.

Unlike other arrangements you will find on this site (and other sites) I have taken the unusual step of removing a large proportion of the triplet accompaniment figure, which is found in the original piano composition.
Other arrangers for wind quintet tend give this figure, as a rule, to the clarinettist, who plays the triplets all the way through the piece. (Brass quintets the horn etc etc).
I have tried to arrange it as though it had been originally written for the wind quintet.

My arrangement retains some of the triplets (the rising arpeggios) and sometimes uses the triplets on one note to add dramatic effect (particularly on the horn.
The net result is more of a chorale, but I feel it does retain the forward movement from the original with the use of moving staccato crotchets (quarter notes)
I have transposed this arrangement into D minor from the original C sharp minor.
The clarinet part is for clarinet in Bb
The horn part is playable on a natural horn in F

There is also an arrangement on this site,by me, of this piece in the original key of C sharp minor with parts for clarinet in A and horn in E. (With alt. Bb Cl and F hn parts)
