Mack the Knife (Die
Moritat von Mackie Messer) is a ballad from the 1928 Threepenny Opera (Die Dreigroschenoper) - a "play with music" by Bertolt
Brecht and music by Kurt Weill. The opera begins with the ballad of "Mack the
Knife", which introduces the audience to the many terrible crimes
committed by the central character, Macheath (Mack), a notorious criminal in
Victorian London.
The song has long been a popular standard and has been
recorded by many artists, including (among many, many others) Bobby Darin,
Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald,
Weills music is arranged here for wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet in B flat, horn in F & bassoon) by Lisa
Portus of www.portuspress.com. In addition to the ballad itself Lisas arrangement
also features optional sections of Weills wind band suite.
The PDF includes the full score and five separate parts.
