Philip Lapatha

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Philip has been shaped by strong, long-lasting friendships and family ties. He has two Bachelor degrees: Music (piano) and Education (senior years Choral and Math), earned in Manitoba, and a Master's degree (piano and music theory), earned in Kentucky.

Since 2011, Philip has been one of two full-time choir teachers at Maples Collegiate in northwest Winnipeg.   The Maples Collegiate choirs strive for excellence in their music and in their community connection.  In Winnipeg’s community, Philip is the artistic director of Prairie Voices, and he has grown in past conducting and teaching opportunities with Ecco Singers, Gordon Bell High School, Pembina Trails Voices, Elim Chapel, the SonoLux Choir, the Provincial Honour Choir, and Manitoba’s different regional youth choirs.

Philip also enjoys writing choral arrangements and his pieces have been performed by various community, high school, and youth choirs throughout Manitoba and beyond.

Philip is married to Kimberly Lapatha, a talented, skilled, and mind-reading collaborative pianist. They enjoy eating at interesting restaurants, meeting new people, connecting with friends in different social circles, and traveling when possible. They open their home to international students and have had their lives enriched by sharing Winnipeg life and family time with over 45 international students since 2014.
